May 16, 2012 Meeting
Our speaker this week is David Halstead, Director, Sport Biomechanics Impact Lab. He is hosted by Connie Tatgenhorst.
Dave Halstead is the Technical Director of Southern Impact Research Center (SIRC) responsible for the technical and scientific actions of the A2LA accredited test lab, as well as overseeing the technical aspects of all testing, consulting and other services provided by SIRC staff.
Dave is uniquely qualified as an expert in the field of head injury and helmets. His background is non-traditional in many ways and does not include a traditional college degree.
In addition to his duties at SIRC, Dave is the Laboratory Director of the University of Tennessee Sports Biomechanics Impact Research Lab and Principal Scientist with the University's Engineering Institute for Injury and Trauma Prevention in the College of Engineering. In these roles Dave works with students and other faculty in many human injury studies. The lab's work has included cadaver and living subject studies in areas of motorcycle injury, finger and ankle injury, spine injury, and head/brain and face injury. Research has been diversified from airbag deployment impacts, injuries from beach volleyball facial impacts, and a number of other areas all-resulting in increased understanding of human injury tolerance and thresholds.

District 6780 Conference

Rotary District 6780 held its annual conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Knoxville.
It was a very good conference that included a lunch presentation by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, a building projection highlighting Rotary's End Polio campaign and ended up with Willie Kitchens and the Impressions closing out Saturday night. In between a great chance for fellowship, plenary sessions and a silent auction.
Fourth Annual Breakfast Club Fundraiser Starring Jeanne Robertson
Once again the Knoxville Breakfast Rotary Club is sponsoring a fundraiser which benefits both the club's Charitable Gift Fund and the Roane County Anti-Drug Coalition on Friday evening, June 15th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Bijou Theatre in downtown Knoxville.
This year's event will star nationally known humorist, Jeanne Robertson, a former Miss North Carolina who stands 6' 2" and spins hilariously funny stores about her life experiences living in North Carolina. She is like the favorite aunt who tells the funniest goings-on at a family reunion. Seen over 14 million times on YouTube, she is loved by people of all ages.
Come out for an evening of great entertainment and see Jeanne Robertson in person.
Tickets are available at the Bijou Theatre through this link. Buy early because she will sell out the theatre!
